Indisputably, the "traditional" definition of marriage is under attack today on many fronts. Attempts to redefine, duplicate and undercut the institution of marriage are prevalent across our country and within our state. The Alaska Family Council is committed to doing everything within its control to protect and strengthen this essential and foundational building block of our society. We believe strongly that marriage is not just for the good of individuals, or the couple, but for the community as a whole and that the permanent and exclusive union between husband and wife mirrors the mutual commitment between God and his people. A lifelong commitment between one man and one woman is the best environment within which to raise and nurture children. Our obligation and commitment is to uphold this sacred institution in law, public policy and within the marketplace of ideas and opinions. "The institution of marriage represents the very foundation of human social order. Everything of value sits on that base. Institutions, governments, religious fervor, and the welfare of children are all dependent on its stability." Dr. James Dobson - Focus on the Family
