The Alaska Family Council supports efforts to decrease the widening reach of pornography in our communities. According to the American Center for Law and Justice, "Communities have the right to regulate pornography according to local standards. That means they can restrict what is sold, where it is sold, and who is able to buy it." Alaskans should not be under the false impression that they are powerless to take a stand regarding the "sexualization" of our culture. The Alaska Family Council will seek to work with legislators, community activists and concerned citizens to curtail the spread of pornography and obscenity in our communities and neighborhoods. Some tactics that have been effectively used in other states include limiting access to pornography by minors at publicly funded libraries through internet filter systems, exercising our First Amendment freedom of speech and freedom to assemble rights to boycott establishments selling pornography, working with city attorneys to establish and enforce ordinances regulating and restricting pornography and developing regulations working with municipalities and boroughs to control the sale of alcohol at and location of sexually oriented businesses.
